‘Twas an XJC too, some 9000 built.

Kinja'd!!!

For those viewing the small version: the numberplate says LS1JAG. I believe it

I have to say I’m behind this. Take out the English bullshit, put in something tried and tested. The body looked to be in great condition too.

It’s like an Overfinch, but it’s a Jag, and not an RR.

I must say, I’m a fan.

The want is so very strong.

Minor quibble here: the XK6 engine was in production for nearly 45 years. That’s pretty tried and tested.

Man, one of those with the V12 is my dream car. Straight pipe it and drive through tunnels all day.

Until you put California required emissions on it. I never thought it was the engine or it’s internals that was the problem, but all the crap they added on in the name of emissions. Specifically California emissions in the late 70's early 80's. Manufacturers made separate models just for California. I don’t believe Jaaaaaag was one of them, so all their cars were California compliant.

In theory, yes. In practise it’s never running, and whenever it is you’re scared of every little noise.

I was casting a pretty wide net over the British auto industry, thanks for the correction. I had no idea!

Does that mean it was...dare I say...reliable?

Maybe this was a 12. Or maybe he wanted more than the poor 6 could give.

Bah, I live in England. If it blows up, I’ll just get another one on eBay, it’s not like Jag V12 are rare or expensive. Heck I might even spring for 6.0. I would of already committed to classic car ownership, might as well go the whole way.

That’s a good point, that’s reason enough for a swap.

A while back I saw that someon dropped a Jag V8 out of an XJ8 into a MkII; it’s pretty awesome. I would totally go that route for the sake of pseudo-purity.

I don’t think anything Jag can ever be termed “reliable” without placing too much burden on the English language. In my experience, the closest Jags get to reliability is that their unreliability is a known and documented quantity.

Jag holds onto engines for a really long time. Fun fact: the AJ-V8 engine is as old as the LS1, only the fourth engine developed by Jag in their history and is the engine used in every V8 Jag, Range Rover, and the V8 Vantage. It was even used in the Lincoln LS and retro Thunderbird.

I’m so jaded on the English motor industry as a whole. If they used it for so long, why couldn’t they make it reliable at least? If it’s as old as the LS1, why is it so much worse?

Even the sentence Jag holds onto engines for a really long time. All I can think is that they hold onto engines because they were making bad cars that fell apart and they never made the profit to properly advanced through the ages. And eventually it led to the collapse of the whole industry as the Germans moved in - and we all know what their reputation for reliability was like.

I don’t mean to pick them apart so much. It’s a bias I’ve got inside me, I’m willing to admit that :P

Listen to a F-Type R or SVR, then listen to a LS1 or any LS. Then honestly tell me that you wouldn’t prefer to hear the Jag on a daily basis.

That’s great, but unfortunately the value of an engine is based on more than its sound.

Isn’t that what the LS1 is for? ;)

But yes it is fairly heavy.
